Restoring an Awesome Note backup
Reads both .anb and .zip backups
Backup files made by Awesome Note can be brought into HyFlow. Both .anb and .zip are read. The extension differs by Awesome Note version, but the contents are the same.
They are handled on the same screen as HyFlow backups, so there is nothing separate to find.
How to import
- 1Open
Settings > Backup & Restore - 2If the file is already on the device it appears in the list. If not, tap
Restore from Another File… - 3Pick the folders and notes you want, then restore
You can also tap a backup file received by mail or messenger and open it in HyFlow. Files copied over by USB from a computer show up in the list as well.
Single-note files (.anote, .ann) and single-folder files (.anfolder, .anf) open directly too.
What comes across
Folder structure, text formatting, photos and attachments, and the weather and location attached to a note. Notes using a background paper carry over to the matching background in HyFlow.
Backups made by much older versions can be read too. The app works out the format on its own.
More comes across from this version on
Things that earlier versions left behind now come across as well.
- 1To-dos. Due date and completion, alerts and repeats included
- 2Typeface and text size. The typography you set per note
- 3Background papers. Along with the default typography and background set on a folder
Notes you already brought over stay as they are. Typography and to-do details are decided at the moment of restoring, so they are not applied to notes that are already in.
To apply it to notes brought over earlier
Leaving them be is fine. The text and photos are all in already — only the styling is the app's default. There is no need to touch anything if it does not get in your way.
If you do want them brought in again, there are two ways.
- 1When there are only a few. Restore again and you will be told the note is already there. Choose
Overwritethen - 2When there is a whole folder of them. Delete that folder and restore just that folder from the backup
Overwriting is done one item at a time, so the second is quicker when there are many.
Deleting a folder sends the notes inside to the Trash. Notes you wrote after bringing things over go with them, so check first whether that folder holds anything the backup does not.
A locked folder is different. Deleting it deletes the notes inside outright, without going through the Trash. That cannot be undone, so do not use this route on a locked folder.
Importing a note you already have
When the same note already exists, that item is reported as failed in the restore results, telling you the note is already there. Nothing is overwritten or copied automatically.
Tap that item in the results to choose what to do.
- 1Overwrite. Move your current note to the Trash and replace it with the one from the backup
- 2Create as new. Leave your current note alone and add a copy
