Sync & Backup
What to avoid in iCloud settings
Some actions erase what is on this device too
The iOS Settings app has actions that erase what is on this device, not just what is in iCloud. These are system behaviors the app cannot prevent, so knowing about them in advance is the only defense.
Delete Data
Settings > Apple Account > iCloud > Storage > HyFlow > Delete Data
It looks like it only clears iCloud, but the notes and folders on this iPhone go with it. There is no way to get them back.
When you get a low iCloud storage notice and go in to clean up, this app appears near the top. That is where the mistake is easiest to make.
If clearing the space is what you actually came to do, the order is in Turning iCloud off. Make a backup first and you can still get it all back after deleting.
Turning the app off under Saved to iCloud
Settings > Apple Account > iCloud > Saved to iCloud > See All > HyFlow
Turning this off removes the records on this device. Turning it back on returns only what had already reached iCloud, and anything not yet uploaded is gone for good.
Even if sync looks slow or stuck, do not turn it off. Waiting is always safer.
Switching to a different Apple Account
The app's records are reset if the signed-in account changes. This happens when handing a device down or reorganizing a family account. If you plan to change accounts, make a backup file first.
How to prepare
Once erased there is no way to get it back. The only remedy is to export it beforehand.
- 1Go to
Settings > Backup & Restore - 2Create a backup file and keep it in the Files app or another cloud service
- 3Make a fresh one before changing accounts or clearing out a device
