Sync & Backup
Seeing how far sync has got
Tap the status line for progress and the reason behind it
Near the bottom of Settings there is a single line showing iCloud status. Tap that line and the detail opens up.
What the detail shows
- 1What is happening right now. Why it is waiting, if it is
- 2Upload progress. A percentage while there is still something to send
- 3When it last uploaded and last downloaded
- 4When the oldest unsent change was made
If the percentage is creeping up at all, it has not stalled. Leave it and it will finish.
`Pending` is not an error
The single line Waiting to sync with iCloud covers several situations at once. It might be waiting its turn, or iOS might have put it off for a while.
Either way what is on this device is untouched. Open the detail to see which it is.
Getting it done sooner
- 1Open
Settings, tap the iCloud status line, and leave sync status open. While that screen is up the display will not turn off on its own, so syncing can keep going - 2Plug in the charger and connect to Wi-Fi
- 3Turn
Low Power Modeoff
If that screen shows something you need to fix yourself, start with that. Account checks and full storage will not move a single item no matter how long you leave it open, and the display turns off as usual in that case.
It does not have to finish in one go. Opening it now and then chips away at the queue.
If you would rather leave a different screen open, set Settings > Display & Brightness > Auto-Lock to a long interval. Nothing moves while the screen is off.
There is no sync now button
There is no button to start it or retry by hand. iOS decides the order and retries on its own.
Do not turn iCloud off because sync is slow. That device's records go with it. There is more in What to avoid in iCloud settings.
When you do need to act
Only these three need something from you. The open detail includes guidance for each.
- 1Your Apple Account needs attention. Sign in again or accept new terms
- 2iCloud storage is full. Clear space from large items such as photos or old device backups
- 3Nothing has moved for over a week. Let us know through How to contact us
While clearing space, do not delete HyFlow from the Storage list. It looks like it only removes what is in iCloud, but the notes on this device go too. Free up space from other items such as photos or old device backups instead.
