Locking a folder
Lock individual folders with Face ID
Locking a note folder requires Face ID or your device passcode to open it. Because the lock applies per folder rather than to the whole app, you can keep just the private ones behind it. A diary, for instance.
How to lock
- 1Press and hold the folder on the Notes screen
- 2Choose
Lockfrom the menu - 3Confirm with Face ID
Deleting a locked folder is different
Deleting a folder that is not locked sends the notes inside to the Trash. You can change your mind.
Deleting a locked folder deletes the notes inside outright, without going through the Trash. That cannot be undone. You are asked once more before it happens.
If there is anything worth keeping, remove the lock first, or move those notes to another folder before deleting.
Good to know
A locked folder asks again when you return from the background. Removing the lock leaves the notes inside untouched.
If Face ID is unavailable, your device passcode works instead. A folder cannot be locked unless the device has a passcode set.
