I am out of iCloud storage

How to clear other things first, and the option of keeping HyFlow out of iCloud

This is for when the bottom of the settings screen says Not enough iCloud storage, or iCloud tells you space is running out.

What you have written simply cannot go up to iCloud right now — your records are still here on this device. They go up again on their own once there is room.

Do not free up space by deleting HyFlow from the `Storage` list. It looks like it only removes what is in iCloud, but the notes on this device go with it. Free up space from other items, using the steps below.

Seeing what is using the space

Open Settings > Apple Account > iCloud > Storage and you will see what uses how much, largest first. Usually the top two or three account for nearly all of it.

1. Clear out photos and videos

This is almost always the largest. Videos especially — a handful of them can outweigh an entire app.

Delete what you do not need in the Photos app, then empty Recently Deleted too. While things sit there, the space stays taken.

2. Delete old device backups

There is often a backup left over from an old iPhone or iPad you no longer use. Open the backups entry inside Storage and you will see them per device. Delete only the ones for devices you no longer use.

Do not delete the backup for the device you are using now. If you lose it, you would have no way to get anything back.

3. Upgrade your plan

You can move up to an iCloud+ plan from the Storage screen. The free 5 GB fills quickly once photos share it.

If that is still not enough

There is also the option of giving up sync so that HyFlow uses no iCloud space at all. The order is in Turning iCloud off — please follow only that order.

Do not turn it off right now. Being out of storage means there is a backlog that has not gone up yet. Turn iCloud off in this state and that part is nowhere in iCloud either — it is gone for good. Always make a backup file and move it off the device first.

Once it is off, your records live only on this device. If you lose the device there is no way back, so make a backup regularly and keep it off the device.
